Howdy, folks! Well, I’m back from Dallas, I’ve taken my cowboy hat off, and it’s business as usual again! I had a useful time over there, despite the heat (over 100°F at times — 38°C), and a thunderstorm that left us without power for several hours one morning! (Thought that only happened in Africa…?) I also [...] Yes, in a couple of weeks’ time I (Steve) will be travelling to Wycliffe’s International Linguistics Centre in Dallas, USA, to do some ‘recurrency training’ on the latest computer programs and publishing procedures at our Global Publishing Services HQ. This is part of the preparation needed for the new role I expect to take up soon, [...] On 4th April 2010 the Konkomba people of Ghana celebrated the dedication of the second edition of the Konkomba Bible (about 1 million speakers). A whole truckload arrived! This was the first complete Bible that Steve typeset: he completed it early in 2009, working with British Wycliffe member Mary Steele. (For more details, see our [...] There’s something we want to share with you… We’re standing on the brink of a new phase in our lives and ministry. When you read what follows, you may understand why communications from us have been a little sparse in recent months. It’s only now that we’ve felt the time is ripe to share this. Since 2000 [...] Sad farewell to my 12-year home from home We began the New Year with a major change: I (Steve) am no longer working at our mission HQ near High Wycombe, where I’ve been based for the past twelve years. The immediate reason was pressure on office space. My three rooms—two offices and a small kitchen [...] This statement by some unknown sage speaks to me right now. 2009 will be engraved in my memory as the Year of the Dud Computers. Six (count them: six) computers have died on me since this time last year. Two desktop machines at work, plus my own desktop at home; and two work laptops, plus [...] The Mbuko New Testament (Cameroon) Though the enemy had other ideas, Richard Gravina and I have made an encouraging start on the Mbuko New Testament.* We were delayed for a week because of my swine flu; and we’ve also been battling a spate of computer problems (see adjacent posts). But after only a couple of weeks [...] Steve is relieved to have survived swine flu! It was a short, sharp episode, and meant that the start of my next typesetting project had to be delayed for a week. But PTL, I’m now back in harness, and making good progress with Richard Gravina on the Mbuko New Testament (see separate post). A very heartfelt thank you [...] Rejoice with us! And with Keir and Gillian Hansford, whose many years of hard work overseeing this translation in northern Ghana have finally reached completion. On Friday I uploaded the whole Chumburung Bible via the Internet to Wycliffe’s Global Publishing Services in Dallas. (Isn’t technology fantastic? In the bad old days it would have been [...] Yes, folks, I’m delighted to say that I’m entering the last lap with the Chumburung typesetting. This has been quite a marathon!
